Chapter 3.2 Evaluation of Thermal Mass Performance

The Hockerton Housing Project (HHP) is a sustainable development, designed to be the first residential ZEB in the UK. It uses passive techniques to lower its energy demand. Thermal mass in the form of thick concrete construction stabilises the indoor environment. This study aims to analyse the measured temperature of the house and establish the role of thermal mass in creating a habitable indoor space. The evaluation of thermal mass and its performance in buildings is hotly debated. This gives some good facts on the topic.
