This six week course develops attendees’ wellbeing and their life skills through practical learning about sustainability, and the application of permaculture principles in a community setting.

Please contact us for more information

We will learn about sustainability in the widest sense; looking at easy and achievable ways we can sustain our environment, our relationships and of course ourselves.

Previous courses have been run by Indigo Brave, these same tutors now run the courses as part of Hockerton Housing Project. The film below shows people from the previous courses.

This course will meet weekly on a Friday in a safe and relaxed atmosphere, to learn about sustainability of self, community and planet and the principles of permaculture, through practical activities, sharing circles and discussion.

The course offers a variety of outdoor activities depending on the season and needs of the group and the environment to include horticulture and growing vegetables, plant/tree identification, coppicing and woodland management, safe handling of tools, composting, cookery and foraging, animal care and camp skills.

Attendees will develop transferable skills such as improved communication, the ability to understand and work sensitively with those different from you, teamwork, self-confidence and reflection.

The course is free for all attendees. We can assist with arranging transport for anyone who may find this difficult.

    Feedback

“Cheers on behalf of myself and all at Space for the great sessions we’ve been attending up on the farm. It’s been really enjoyable, fun and most importantly, really beneficial for the service users.”

“I’ve never seen [attendee] open up and engage in group conversation as much as he has on your course. Also, learning new physical work skills and improving on the skills he already has been very beneficial.”

“In all honesty, in over 2 years of working with and knowing [attendee], I’ve never seen him open up, or converse so much. It was really great to see how he took to the group share sessions and got involved, and was willing/happy to get involved. I feel this is a great credit to the environment you have created.”

“The social environment on the farm has been really beneficial in encouraging George (and all our service users) into engaging in a community; encouraging hard work whilst learning new skills and then putting them to use.”
