Description
The homes at Hockerton Housing Project use large super-insulated thermal water stores to cut the financial and environmental cost of heating water. One home uses a heat pump to harvest heat from the conservatories, so that the pump benefits from a relatively high input temperature. In the other homes, the heat pumps have failed over time and so immersion heaters are use, powered by renewable electricity. Overall the combined system of heat pump and super-insulated thermal water store reduces the energy requirements for hot water by about 75%.
