Aims & Objectives

"To develop a holistic, non-polluting way of living and to work in harmony with nature - an evolving dynamic process that seeks to evaluate and implement the most appropriate sustainable systems available"
  • Promote sustainable living to a wide audience.
  • Promote the production and efficient use of domestic energy requirements using renewable systems – including use of electric vehicles.
  • Promote affordable, ultra-low energy dwellings.
  • Demonstrate viability of non-CO2 emission dwellings.
  • Demonstrate that ordinary families and individuals can take responsibility for and contribute to reducing the output of greenhouse gases that create global warming.
National governments are striving to find methods to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions and energy consumption. Many countries, such as the US, are finding it very difficult to commit themselves to specific targets - the Rio+5 conference being indicative of this paralysis. The UK Government however has set challenging targets for this new millennium. The aims of the Hockerton Housing Project are to address these issues and to go further without compromising modern comforts and amenities. These aims are in line with Agenda 21 as stated in the Rio Earth Summit commitment. (HHP, 1996)
