Why use HHP?

With growing environmental concerns and greater awareness of sustainability issues, the Educational establishments are responding by incorporating related material into their curriculums and coursework. Schools (primary & secondary) are expected use the Government’s ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ (Click here for more information) as an approach to the whole curriculum and management of a school. Colleges and universities are developing an increasing number of course and modules for both undergraduate and post-graduate courses. These developments in turn have led to an increasing interest in HHP as a practical case study to support the learning outcomes for pupils & students.

HHP responded initially by developing an educational programme for primary schools (KS2), but more recently has expanded its sustainable educational activities for secondary schools. Further Colleges and Universities have been visiting from the very beginning of HHP, but from an increasing variety of subjects.

HHP’s educational services support local schools and other agencies in delivering governments key priorities on health and the environment, such as:

  • Eco Schools
  • Education Outside the Classroom Manifesto
  • Healthy Schools

“The educational opportunities available at Hockerton are arguably without parallel in the country and Nottinghamshire schools are very lucky to have this provision on their doorstep. It would be great to see many more schools taking pupils to your site…”
(Environmental Education, Nottinghamshire County Council, Nov 05)

“We believe every child and young person should experience the world outside the classroom as an integral part of their learning and development” (Education Outside the Classroom Manifesto - Department for Education & Skills, Nov 05)
