'Sustainability in Practice – An educational experience for young people' is a comprehensive educational experience developed by HHP for young people, to learn about the problems of sustainability and discover some of the solutions. It has been running for over three years.
The 'problem solvers', typically in Years 5 & 6 (KS2), do a mapping exercise followed by exploring different topics through activities/experiments – The topics are:
Water
Shelter

Waste
Food

Normally a class on a half-day visit is spilt into three groups to cover a topic each. However on a full day visit all children can cover three topics.
All activities take place at the Hockerton Housing Project (HHP) site near Newark, with all necessary resources provided. An associated Resource Pack has been developed to provide teachers with a summary of all the activities and how they link to National Curriculum (KS2). The pack is also designed for use at pre- and post-visit in-school sessions. A Resource Pack will be provided to schools planning a visit to us.
Members from the Hockerton Housing Project can visit the school to prepare 'problem solvers' for their task! Teachers are invited to visit HHP before committing to an educational experience that they, or their pupils, won't regret!
HHP aim to make a visit to the project an educational experience for young people (and of course their teacher’s) which is unique, fun, exciting, developmental and even life changing!
