Why come to HHP?

Since completion in 1998, the Hockerton Housing Project (HHP) has established itself as an exemplar of sustainable development, locally and nationally, providing a unique 'real-life' experience of living sustainably. One of the main aims of HHP is to encourage a wide range of visitors, from building professionals to students, to become more interested in sustainable development and lifestyles.

Although reading about projects such as HHP can tell you a lot, there is nothing like seeing things for real, getting a direct sense of what it is like, and meeting the people face-to-face who are doing it. Therefore HHP has developed a range of tours, workshops & other types of events for visitors to learn more about HHP, meet its occupants, discover possible options and if relevant how to progress ideas.

The applicability of the project is very wide whether you are an architect looking for CPD, a landowner wanting to self-build your dream eco-house, or a student working on a dissertation. There is also a significant international interest. We have had a number of visits arranged through organisations such as ‘The British Council’, energy agencies and regional government agencies. To date we have received over 12,000 visitors.

To date the following types of visitors have joined HHP events:

  • Architects
  • Developers
  • Other building professionals
  • Self-builders/ landowners
  • Landscape architects
  • Local authority staff (including planners & building control)
  • University students/lecturers
  • Schools (Primary/Secondary/FE colleges)
  • Environmental organisations
  • Other organisations with an interest in environmental issues or looking for a ‘novel’ experience!
  • Media

People seeking a more sustainable lifestyle.

In the meantime why not first go on a Virtual Tour.
